Snapback hats are a type of baseball cap . Its name was derived from the plastic striparound the back which has an adjustable sizing snap back mechanism that allows for a perfect fitno matter who wears them. Back in the day, as an advertisinggimmick snapback hats were a smash hit during the 80s and were mainly used for that purpose, playing baseball. Sports teams were quick to jump on the bandwagon to take advantage of America’s love for baseball caps which could be quickly and cheaply manufacturedfor fans of all ages and all sizes. No longer were manufacturersconstrained by having to guess at how many fitted caps to make.The accompanying inventory problems vanished as well. All themanufacturers needed was a team logo and they were off andrunning. With Will Smith of the “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” famesporting the snapback “look” in almost every episode and with a “onesize fits all” philosophy, sales were guaranteed and America wasdestined to become an 80s walking billboard.
America loved the snapback’s look of bright colors, team support and comfort. Not content tolet baseball rule the look, sports teams of all genres including basketball hat football hat and hockey cap and other brand hat, Nascar andeven racquetball jumped on the bandwagon. If the snapback hats were “cool” enough for WillSmith, then they were “cool” enough for all. Entire teams donned their snapbacks and lined upto receive awards, give interviews and talk “smack” all while wearing their team colors.
